Death is mundane.  Everybody does it.  There nothing special about death.  On the other hand, life is precious.  What will you do with yours?  Would you throw a check for $1,000,000 in the trash?  No, of course not.  You're smarter than that.  What is life?  Life is a composition of time - truly the most valuable asset of everyone, worth more than $1,000,000.  How much time do you throw in the trash?  Stop it.  You're smarter than that.

Every moment, you make decisions.  These decisions pave a road.  Based on your decisions, where is your road going?  Do you like where it's headed?  Are there improvements you can make?  Start making them!  The past cannot be amended, and the future is uncertain.  Only now exists.  Mom's used to say, "Wear clean underwear in case you are hit by a car."  Do you want to die with dirty underwear on?  It's a decision you make - something simple which is within your control.

People don't remember other people because they died because it's universally common.  People remember other people for what they did while they were alive - the good, the bad, or the ugly.  "He was a notorious gangster - reviled by the masses." "I always remember her being happy."  "He made significant contributions to science."  "She made the best pies!"  Do you want to be remembered for what you are doing now?  If not, stop doing it.

Merriam Webster defines habit as:

habit - an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary

When something becomes a habit, you hardly even think about it, if at all.  This is true for both good habits and bad habits.  According to research by Lally et. al (2oo9), automaticity of habitual actions can be expedited by tying the new action with another action.  For example, you wake up --> you make your bed.  On the negative side, you eat --> you smoke a cigarrette.

Self-suggestion can be used to overcome bad habits and establish new, more productive ones.  In the definition of "habit," the word involuntary indicates that habits are largely controlled by the subconscious.  Good news: the subconscious can be re-programmed.  If you are a smoker, try this.  Every night before bed repeat this twenty times out loud for 90 days, "Every time I have the urge to smoke a cigarrette, I eat nuts or fruit instead."  Keep plenty of nuts and fruits on hand!  It works.

Start building a legacy.  Don't get hit by a car with dirty underwear on.  You are an amazing creature capable of performing seemingly impossible feats.  Whatever it is that you want to do, visualize yourself doing it successfully.  What would it look like?  Daydream!  Define your desired result.  Invest your time into actions to achieve it.  Measure your progress regularly.  Execute faithfully.  You'll turn your life around on a DIME.  Nobody makes it out of here alive!
