What is Good? What is Evil?

There is something inside of your brain that tells you what to do that's right and tells you not to do what's wrong.  Listening to this, what I call your Moral Conscience, is good.  Not listening to your Moral Conscience is evil.  Are you doing the things you tell yourself to do and not doing the things you tell yourself not to do?

"I told myself to ____________, and I didn't.  Now, ___________ has happened.  I knew it would!"  Fill in the blanks.  Is this something you find yourself saying?  If so, it's a symptom of a larger problem.  Procrastination or the complete dismissal of direction from your Moral Conscience is a sign of internal rebellion.  In a war against yourself, who will win and who will lose?  You.

People know right from wrong.  If they didn't know the difference, they wouldn't try to hide bad behavior in the darkness.  They would do those things in the open.  Children sometimes have things mixed up and do bad when trying to do good.  You hear them say things like, "I didn't know that would happen!"  This excuse fades with time.  If the child does it again, for example, he or she should have known better the second time.  Are you hiding some of your behavior in the darkness?

Do you want to experience long-term fulfillment?  Rebellion sometimes brings short-term happiness, but it's fleeting.  The kicks from doing evil fade fast.  However, listening to yourself as a rule builds a foundation.  Being faithful to your Moral Conscience gives you peace of mind and unwaivering direction.  Make "I follow my conscience" your motto.  In this way, you can keep your head high under all circumstances.  You will become fulfilled.

Next time you tell yourself to workout, workout.  Next time you tell yourself to clean, clean.  Next time you tell yourself, "don't do that," don't do it.  If followed, your life will become incrementally better all the time.  It doesn't mean that everything will work out exactly the way you hoped it would, but listening to your Moral Conscience has an uncanny way of preparing you for your future and hardening you against setbacks.  Start listening to yourself, or you'll lose the war.  Godspeed.
